Steam Meters: Vortex and Differential Pressure Flow Measurement for Industrial Facilities
Share
Steam submetering is essential for accurate energy accounting, process control, and sustainability reporting in facilities that use steam for heating, sterilization, or industrial processes. Hospitals, universities, food processing plants, and district energy systems rely on steam flow measurement to manage costs, detect losses, and meet energy reporting requirements.
Emergent Metering offers vortex and differential pressure steam flow meters for saturated and superheated steam applications. Our steam meters include temperature and pressure compensation for accurate mass flow measurement, with Modbus RTU, BACnet IP, and pulse output communication for integration into BMS, SCADA, and cloud analytics platforms.
Why Steam Submetering Matters
Steam leaks, trap failures, and inefficient distribution are among the most costly and difficult-to-detect energy waste problems in industrial and institutional facilities. Submetering at the header, building, process, or equipment level provides data to identify anomalies quickly, allocate costs accurately, and demonstrate reductions for sustainability reporting.
For hospitals and healthcare campuses, steam submetering supports energy use intensity (EUI) tracking. For universities with district steam plants, submetering individual buildings enables accurate chargeback and demand management. For manufacturing facilities, process steam metering enables cost allocation by product or production line.
Vortex Flow Meters
Vortex flow meters measure steam flow by detecting vortices shed by a bluff body in the flow stream. They provide stable, accurate measurement for saturated and superheated steam from 2-inch to 12-inch pipe sizes, available with integrated temperature and pressure transmitters for mass flow and energy calculation.
Differential Pressure Flow Meters
DP flow meters using orifice plates, annubars, or averaging pitot tubes offer cost-effective steam measurement for large-diameter pipes and high-pressure applications. All Emergent Metering steam meters include factory calibration certificates and are available with NIST-traceable calibration for revenue-grade applications.
